Well after 3 days the Tradtech Titan is now ready to hunt.I still have plans to use predator green
Camo skins on the back of the bow and I have a quiver being made with a green insert instead of
the red colored one in the pictures. This is a little quiver my buddy John Dill makes and sells. This one
has A differant gripper system I come up with to be a two arrow treeshark quiver.Other than those things
the bow is ready.
I hunt spooky deer so quiet is of big time importance to me and the bow is set up with that in mind.
It has a 12 strand d-97 string with .024 Halo serving. The Titan is braced at 8 1/4".Limbsavers are installed on the limbs and I used two light weight wool puffs on the string instead of one heavier one.The grip was stained to go with my camo and has a thin leather saddle put on.It was lined with thin rubber pads to make a rock solid fit.I hate grips
that move.I also outfited this one with a simple leather sling.Although I grip the bow I like the sling when shooting targets and having options for me is always a plus. The bow balences well for me so I am not useing my little s-coil stab with it.I am shooting off a centerrest plunger rest because when hunting with light weight bows perfect arrow flight is an absolute must.It is always important whenever shooting game is concerned, but even more so as bow weight or draw length goes down.
To make this reveiw short and sweet, I love this bow!
It is very smooth to draw, carrys well,is mild mannered even with arrow weights down to 7gns/lb and performs well enough I can use it to hunt all the animals I hunt with what many consider a light weight bow. Although I use heavier arrows hunting I feel the bow is quiet enough now that I could send one of the little 300 grainers though these spooky whitetails before they knew what happened. :) The grip size of this riser fits me real well so I shoot it well.I like the clean lines and to me it is a very attractive bow.Pretty wood is great but I find beauty in the lines of a bow and it's function far more than swirly grain so this one is about as pretty as it gets to me.
Here are the numbers at 28" drawing just under 43lbs with my hunting glove.
None of the arrows were tuned to the bow and just made up for weight. While they are not internet speed numbers we see posted so often they are very respectible for what the bow is set up for.A mild mannered hunting bow capable of spitting out light weight arrows if need be for 3ds.Quiet enough for highly pressured whitetails and has enough power at less than 43lbs to shoot big Simmons through about any hog I run across. What more could a hunter ask for? :)
weight / fps
506 161 11.77gns/lb
436 174 10gn/lb
387 178 9gn/lb
304 194 7gns/lb
Well I decide to go with the slow arrow this year.My shots are close anyway. It matches trajectory with one of my wooden bows I plan on hunting with some so decided to keep things close. This is a good 30yd group during tuneing.A bareshaft, feild point and my trusty Simmons broadhead.I called it quits on the tuneing part and just have to finish fletching arrows now. :)
I got a set of the newer version longbow limbs from Tradtech. These addressed the issue of some excess vibration in the wide limbs. The taper was changed some and the outer section of the limbs narrowed with overlays getting a fat removal. The much talked about "hump' in the limbs strung profile was taken care of as well. The results are a much quieter limb that shows a more tradtional profile when strung. The limb has very little vibration now and sports a pretty good increase in performance as well. They made something good into something better with this change.
The new numbers for these limbs shot with 12 strand string and wool silencers.Braced at 8 3/8"
575gn 12.8gns/lb 164
460gn 10.2gns/lb 179
440gn 9.8gns/lb 183
410gn 9.1gns/lb 186
There is a noticable effect on how the bow feels with the newer limbs.Much better and with the increase in performance they will hold there own with most of the better performing bows out there now. With the reduction in vibration shooting light weight arrows is an option for someone that wants to without worring about useing limbsavers on the limbs..
My set is a prototype and the tips on the production models will not look exactly like these. They will be more of a tradition longbow type. You can still see from the pictures the way the limbs were narrowed and extra mass was removed from the overlays.
